45 CE Hours | Three Progressive Levels | Multiple Ways to Learn
Developing Exceptional Clinical Supervisors.
Because every supervisee, every client, and every community deservesthoughtful leadership.
Clinical supervision is one of the highest-leverage things a social worker can do.
The conversations we have in supervision shape how clinicians think, make ethical decisions, navigate complexity, understand themselves and others, and care for the people and communities they serve. That influence reaches far beyond the supervision room.
Our Clinical Supervision Training Program prepares social workers for that responsibility through rigorous, reflective, and deeply relational learning grounded in ethics, clinical judgment, cultural responsiveness, and thoughtful leadership.
Clinical Supervision Is One of the Highest-Leverage Things a Social Worker Can Do
The impact of supervision reaches far beyond the supervision room.
Every clinician we supervise carries something from that relationship into their work: the questions we teach them to ask, the ethical reasoning we help them develop, the ways we navigate uncertainty, the conversations we are willing to have about power and identity, and the expectations we establish around accountability and care.
Those clinicians go on to work with hundreds, sometimes thousands, of clients throughout their careers. Some will become supervisors themselves. Some will lead teams, shape organizations, teach future social workers, and influence how our profession responds to increasingly complex needs.
Exceptional supervision creates a ripple effect.
It strengthens clinicians.
It improves care.
It influences organizations and communities.
And it helps shape the future of social work.
That is why supervision deserves more than good intentions, years of clinical experience, or a checklist of administrative responsibilities.
It deserves preparation.
Â
Being an Excellent Clinician Doesn't Automatically Prepare You to Supervise
Many social workers enter supervision because they are experienced clinicians, trusted colleagues, or emerging leaders.
Then they discover that supervision asks something different of them.
Suddenly, you're responsible not only for your own clinical judgment, but for helping another clinician develop theirs.
You're navigating power and authority. Giving feedback. Evaluating performance. Attending to culture and identity. Holding ethical and legal responsibility. Responding when a supervisee is struggling. Deciding when support is enough and when accountability, remediation, or gatekeeping may be necessary.
And you're doing all of this while trying to build a relationship in which another clinician can be honest about what they don't know.
That requires more than clinical expertise.
Exceptional supervision requires its own knowledge, skills, judgment, self-awareness, and practice.
And those can be developed.
Â
Developing Exceptional Clinical Supervisors
A three-level developmental journey.
Exceptional supervision isn't learned all at once.
This program is intentionally sequenced to help you build a strong foundation, develop the skills to facilitate meaningful clinical growth, and ultimately step into the complexity and leadership of advanced supervision.
Each 15-hour level builds on the one before it.
LEVEL ONE:Â Build the Foundation
Foundations, Theory & Ethical Orientation of Supervision
Begin with the responsibilities at the heart of clinical supervision.
Explore supervisory roles, ethics, power, developmental theory, cultural responsiveness, reflective practice, and the foundations of your emerging supervisory identity.
15 CE Hours
LEVEL TWO:Â Develop Clinical Leadership
Relational Depth, Facilitation, Evaluation & the Hard Parts of Supervision
Move from understanding supervision to actively facilitating clinical growth.
Develop your ability to teach clinical judgment, navigate identity and relational dynamics, provide meaningful feedback, evaluate performance, respond to rupture, and address remediation and gatekeeping when necessary.
15 CE Hours
LEVEL THREE:Â Lead Through Complexity
Leadership, Systems, Trauma & Supervisory Identity
Move beyond individual supervisory skills into the larger responsibilities of leadership.
Explore trauma exposure, burnout and moral injury, ethical complexity, systems-level responsibility, sustainable supervision structures, and the supervisory philosophy that will guide your leadership over time.
15 CE Hours
45 Hours. Three Levels. One Developmental Arc.
By the end of the complete program, you won't simply have learned more about supervision.
You'll have developed a clearer understanding of who you are as a supervisor, how you lead, and the influence you want your supervision to have.

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
This is not a surface-level CE course or a passive certification experience. Participants can expect a sequenced, developmental curriculum that builds across all three levels and emphasizes ethical reasoning, supervisory judgment, reflective practice, and real-world application.
The program combines live teaching, facilitated discussion, structured reflection, and applied supervision concepts grounded in the realities of clinical practice. Throughout the training, participants engage directly with topics such as power, identity, evaluation, remediation, gatekeeping, and the relational responsibilities inherent in supervision.
The curriculum is aligned with Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) training standards while remaining intentionally relational, rigorous, and practice-oriented. This training prioritizes critical thinking, leadership development, and supervisory integrity over scripts, shortcuts, or purely administrative approaches to supervision.
Â
IMPORTANT ENROLLMENT EXPECTATIONS
-
Levels must be completed in order, as each training builds developmentally on the previous level.
-
Level One is required unless participants have completed a comparable supervision training within the past five years that is similar in length, scope, and approval status.
-
This program is designed for clinicians who are willing to engage thoughtfully, reflectively, and ethically with the complexity of supervision practice.
Meet Your Instructors
Bethany Raab, MSW, LCSW, ACS
Bethany Raab is a clinical social worker, supervisor, educator, and founder of the Center for Ethical Social Work Practice. With more than 20 years of experience in social work, her work has focused on clinical practice, supervision, ethics, leadership development, and supporting clinicians working within complex systems.
Her approach to supervision is grounded in anti-oppressive practice, cultural humility, trauma-informed care, and the belief that supervision should be both relationally attuned and professionally rigorous. Throughout her career, Bethany has supervised clinicians across multiple levels of development and has trained supervisors in both private practice and organizational settings.
Bethany developed the Clinical Supervision Training Program to address a gap she repeatedly observed in the field: many clinicians are expected to supervise others with little meaningful training in how to navigate power, evaluation, ethical complexity, identity, gatekeeping, or the emotional realities of leadership.
Her teaching style is thoughtful, direct, relational, and grounded in real-world supervision practice. Participants can expect honest discussion, practical application, critical reflection, and a learning environment that encourages both accountability and growth.
“Supervision creates ripple effects that extend far beyond the supervision room. My goal is to help supervisors lead with greater clarity, integrity, and intention in the work they carry forward.”
